Sunny Sunday fun

Belinda and I love sitting down for several rousing hands of Skip-bo! It does wonders to keep one fresh and thinking!

A damp Wednesday

Rain & snow clouds this morning
Birthday cupcakes and prizes
Maypoles made by Betty Lowell's husband
With the rather inclement weather settling upon the Bitterroot Valley this morning I decided to forego the birthday lunch at the senior center. Charles attended as per his custom and he made sure to bring my "birthday cupcake" home for me to enjoy!

Enjoying time with Kathie B.
Thanks to Rob for the DQ treat!
We had a delightful time today visiting with our dear friend, Kathie Bendinelli, in San Angelo, Texas!

A four hour drive back to Austin (214 miles) was in store for us this afternoon. Of course we had to stop at a Dairy Queen because as the commercial says, "That what we like about Texas!"

Tomorrow we make the return flights back to Montana!

Texas road trip: Day 6 (San Angelo)

A glass of tea on a hot day
Belinda loves Logan's Roadhouse yeast rolls!
Fun with Sandra and Mary
We drove from San Antonio to San Angelo, some 212 miles, yesterday evening. I lived in San Angelo (2009-2015) prior to moving to Montana.

Today we had lunch at Belinda's favorite place, Logan's Roadhouse, famous for its yeast rolls!

Belinda and I were delighted to spend time with dear friends, Mary (the mother) and Sandra (the daughter) at the Red Lobster in San Angelo. When good friends get together, it is as if no time has passed since the last encounter.

Leaving the city behind, we headed to San Angelo (212 miles) and visits with more friends there on Monday and Tuesday.

Texas road trip: Day 2 (Denver to San Antonio)

A morning flight from Denver to Austin was first up for us today. After collecting our luggage and rental car, we headed south on I-35 to San Antonio and the next stop on our Texas road trip!

I moved from San Antonio to San Angelo in 2009 (to Rio Concho West) and hadn't been back in San Antonio since June 2013. It feels nice to be back where I spent so many years.

A Maypole Poem

Deprived of root, and branch and rind,
Yet flowers I bear of every kind:
And such is my prolific power,
They bloom in less than half an hour;
Yet standers-by may plainly see
They get no nourishment from me.

My head with giddiness goes round,
And yet I firmly stand my ground:
All over naked I am seen,
And painted like an Indian queen.

No couple-beggar in the land
E'er joined such numbers hand in hand.
I joined them fairly with a ring;
Nor can our parson blame the thing.

And though no marriage words are spoke,
They part not till the ring is broke;
Yet hypocrite fanatics cry,
I'm but an idol raised on high;
And once a weaver in our town,
A damned Cromwellian, knocked me down.

I lay a prisoner twenty years,
And then the jovial cavaliers
To their old post restored all three -
I mean the church, the king, and me.
- Jonathan Swift, 1725
